Grand Knight’s Message

September is here! Our council meeting this month is on September 5. Bring a fellow brother knight with you! We start with the rosary at 7 p.m. and the council meeting at 7:30 p.m. If you need a ride to be able to attend, give me a call and we will make sure someone can pick you up and drive you home.

September also means NFL football season is right around the corner. How are those Football Crzr ticket sales going? So far, 53 tickets have been sold! Tickets must be turned in to the state council in October in order to be eligible for all the games on the ticket(s). Tickets are $20 each. Please return any unsold tickets to the hall for others to sell. Sold tickets and money can be turned in at our council meeting or each Wednesday evening at the hall. We are hoping to top last year’s turn-in of 168 tickets.

I’ve started recruiting at our parishes. I have felt very welcomed at the churches I have visited so far. Both Fr. Pfeifer at St. Paul and Fr. Smith at Immaculate Conception spoke very highly about the Knights of Columbus at these masses.

An update on our five committees as we try to reach our goal of star council.

The Family Committee Thank you for all the nominations for family of the month. With those nominations we have selected the Mike Herold family as our August family of the month. You can see Mike and Diana regularly at the hall on Wednesday evenings. Mike is the financial secretary for council #3410.
They are active parishioners at Visitation of Mary parish and Mike is also a lead volunteer at the Ozanam Center. Please nominate a family for September at the link later in the newsletter by September 15.

Membership Committee In August, I spoke at both St. Paul Parish and Immaculate Conception Parish. A handful of men at each parish have expressed interest. I will be at St. John’s and Annunciation over the next few weekends. The plan is to hold an exemplification in October again. At future events, I will have a registration table set up.

Some examples of things The Life Committee can do are leading Novena for Life, Special Olympics, Pregnancy aid/support, Christian Refugee Relief, Mass for people with special needs. The Community Committee includes coats for kids, clothing donations, free throw championship for youth ages 9-14, a citizenship essay contest and more. For the Faith Committee items can include supporting vocations, rosary, Sacramental Gifts, Memorial Mass, Ushering, holy hours and more. If you are interested in any of those, please let me know.

Looking ahead at some fun events in the works. September 16 is the last steak out of the summer. A sign up sheet is in the lounge. Wednesday, September 27, is our Octoberfest Potluck. Brats will be served, the hall will be decorated and music will be playing. The hall will be having a reverse raffle on Saturday, November 11. Tickets are $40 each and will be on sale soon. January 20 will be our 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off and Euchre Tournament. In April, we also hope to have another spring Craft Fair.

Starting October 18, we will be doing a food drive leading up to Thanksgiving. Though food is welcome to be donated, we will also be asking for monetary donations, as many food banks can stretch the money collected to purchase more than individuals can. Watch for a collection box in the lounge. If we collect and donate $500, the Supreme Council will refund our council $100.

I encourage everyone to come out every Wednesday to the hall starting at 6 p.m. If you need a ride, let me know. Sign the book for a chance to win the weekly/ monthly drawing. Enjoy a hotdog, delicious potluck items and socialization.

Be Good Everyone.
Steve Dort, Grand Knight
