South Akron Knights of Columbus

Council 3410

Grand Knight’s Message

He is risen. Happy Easter and Happy Dyngus Day to all my Polish friends.

What a great seven weeks we had of fish frys! Thanks to all those involved, including the behind-the-scenes management, and the large volunteer workforce. Everyone should be very proud.

Tuesday, April 2 is our monthly meeting. We will say the rosary at 7 p.m. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. We need one more thing before we qualify as a star council, and it so happens that we can take care of it on meeting night. We will have a video playing with Ed Slott talking about retirement savings and distribution at 8 p.m. To be clear, this is a live stream for all Knights of Columbus Councils, we are not having an in-person speaker. I just ask that you come and be present during the webinar. We need a minimum of 14 people. A lot of work went into completing what is needed for Star Council. Please help us with this last item.

Also, this meeting is the last meeting for nominations for next year’s executive positions and appointed positions. We will be voting at the May meeting. If you are interested and do not have your name on the nomination form already, you need to do so before the May 7 meeting. Many spots are still available.

On Saturday, April 13, there will be a Craft Fair at the hall. We have 34 vendors participating. If you are free that day, please stop by the hall between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and check out the tables of crafters and vendors, to show our support. I heard there will be a large range of items available for sale.

On Saturday, May 25, come out to Holy Cross Cemetery and place flags at the graves of our veterans at 8 a.m. Bring your families to join us.

Another successful cornhole season has come to an end. Thank you to Dave DeShane for running it again. Cornhole is always a great way to get us through the winter months.

Be Good Everyone.
Steve Dort, Grand Knight

Cash Bonanza

Brother Don White is running our Cash Bonanza campaign again this year. Tickets are $5 each and should be returned to Don now. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year. We broke a council record of tickets sold last year, and let’s try to do it again!

Theology on the Rocks

Monday, April 15 at The Tangier, 507 S. Cleveland Massillon Road in Fairlawn. The speaker is Fr. Ian Kelly of St. John Vianney Parish in Mentor. His topic is Saints and Healing Throughout the Centuries.

Craft Fair

On Saturday, April 13, there will be a craft fair in the hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tell your friends and family to come out and shop for some great spring and summer items amongst the 34 vendor tables. It is free admission to shop. We are still in need of volunteers from 3-4:30 p.m. to help put the tables and chairs away.

Diocese Event: Men’s Retreat

Saturday, April 13 is a men’s retreat with the Cleveland Diocese. It will take place at St. Agnes & Our Lady of Fatima in Cleveland. You can register at dioceseofcleveland.org/events.

Kentucky Derby Party

On Saturday, May 4 we will have our annual Kentucky Derby party. Details are being worked out, so keep an eye out on next month’s newsletter for more information. It’s always a great time!

Flags at the Cemetery

All council #3410 members and their families are encouraged to come to Holy Cross Cemetery on Saturday, May 25 at 8 a.m. to place flags at the headstones of our veterans. We volunteered last year and it was my favorite council activity of the year. Watch for details next month.

Bocce Ball at Knights of Columbus Hall

We are looking forward to another spring and summer of playing Bocce Ball in the back of the hall. Keep watching the newsletter and emails for information.
