Rubber Ducks Game | Olympics Themed Potluck | Bocce Ball and Corn Hole
Grand Knight’s Message
I hope everyones having a great start to your summer. We do have some events coming up this month and next, so do not be afraid to come out and try something new. Missy and I attended the Ballpark Mass last week and participated in the procession on the streets of Akron, something new for both of us. We hope to see you at some upcoming events and at our weekly drawings at the hall.
Tuesday, July 2, is our council meeting and will have the installation of officers ceremony. Come show your support for our new officers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Families are welcome.
On Tuesday, August 6, we will have an exemplification ceremony for men 18 and over to join our council. If you know of anyone who may be interested in joining, have them contact our membership chairperson, Pat DeShane, for more information, or Steve Dort. This is a great time for those in college to join before they leave for the fall semester.
Be Good Everyone.
Steve Dort, Grand Knight
Silver Rose
Come out on Sunday, July 7, at St. Paul Church on Brown St. in Akron for a Silver Rose Prayer Service. Our District Deputy and council #3410 Brother Tom Goodhart has been granted the opportunity for all of us to participate in the Silver Rose Tour 2024. We will share the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe and promote respect for life by participating in this meaningful pilgrimage. The Silver Rose program demonstrates the unity between Knights of Columbus in Canada, The United States and Mexico, through a series of prayer services promoting the dignity of all human life while honoring our Lady. Each year, from early March through mid December, Silver Roses are stewarded by Knights of Columbus councils along the routes from Canada to Mexico. Every stop the Silver Rose makes throughout the pilgrimage is a rosary-centered occasion for Knights, parishioners, and community members to pray for respect for life, for the spiritual renewal of each nation and for the advancement of the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe. There will be a rosary at 7:30 a.m., mass at 8 a.m., and then the prayer service at 9 a.m. immediately after mass.
Theology of the Rocks
On Monday, July 15, Fr. Matthew Pfeiffer will speak at Theology on the Rocks. His topic is “Running the Race with St. Paul: Spiritual Training To and Through Failure.” Theology on the Rocks takes place at Our Lady of the Cedars at 507 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd. in Fairlawn. $15 admission includes light appetizers, and there is a cash bar. Doors open at 7 p.m. and he will start speaking at 7:30 p.m.
Council #3410 Rubber Ducks Game
Bring your family out to the Rubber Ducks game on Sunday, July 28, with other Council #3410 families for a 1:05 p.m. game. Purchase general admission tickets for section 2 and we can all sit as a group. Those that went last year know it was a great time. Maybe Joe Papano will bring out the duck hat again!
2024 Olympics Themed Potluck
We have not had a themed Potluck in a while, so how about we celebrate the 2024 Paris Olympics with a themed Potluck at our end of the month drawing on July 31. Support Team USA by wearing red, white, and blue, or the colors of any other country you choose. Let’s see what creative side dishes and desserts we can make around the Olympic theme. Of course we will still have pizza! I am sure we can find some Olympic sport channels on the TV in the lounge as well.
August Steak Out
There is no steak out in July, but come out and join us on Saturday, August 10, for the next one starting at 5:30 p.m. Steak is $18, chicken is $12, and deep fried shrimp dinners are $12. You cook your steak or chicken on the grill the way you like them. We do have grill assistants to help out. Baked potato, green beans, salad, and rolls are provided. You are welcome to bring a dessert to share with everyone. You must RSVP and pay by Thursday, August 8. Everyone is invited! Sign up sheets are in the lounge.
2024 Memorial Mass
This year’s Memorial Mass for council #3410 at Immaculate Conception will be on Saturday, November 16, at 5 p.m. This change was needed due to the parish’s reduced mass schedule.
Bocce Ball at the Hall
Attention guys and gals! On Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m., play some bocce ball in the back of the hall, weather permitting. Last year we had a small (but fun!) group who came out and played. Those that chose to be spectators had fun, too! Bring your own beverages to stay hydrated.
Corn Hole Blind Draws
We will have corn hole blind draws on Mondays starting at 7 p.m., run by Zach DeShane. You can register on the Scoreholio app or sign up when you get there. Please reach out to Zach if you have questions.
