Grand Knight’s Message

I hope you all enjoyed yourselves celebrating Independence Day. July brings the start of a new year for the Knights of Columbus. At our June meeting, we elected the officers for the new year. Please pray for our officers to successfully fulfill the duties of their positions.

Grand Knight: Steve Dort
Deputy Grand Knight: Mike Pribonic
Chancellor: Vince Gross
Recorder: Harry Vezzani
Treasurer: Jim Thomas
Lecturer: Shawn Needham
Advocate: Paul Adamson

Warden: Jerry Paridon
Inside Guard: John Withrow
Outside Guard: Richard Falkenstein
Trustee (3rd year): Tom Goodhart
Trustee (2nd year): Mike Morris
Trustee (1st year): Shawn Needham

At our June meeting we approved $1,800 in charitable requests. $500 went to the Embrace Clinic, which helps new parents. $500 went to help a seminarian at the Franciscan College with expenses towards their theology degree. $500 went to The Tyler Cetnaroski Memorial Golf outing that was held at the end of June. $300 went to the Kenmore Free Store as they continue to help the needy.

After our wonderful Cash Bonanza sales, South Akron Knights of Columbus Council gave back to our parishes for welcoming us to sell tickets after masses:

Visitation of Mary $300
St. Paul $300
Immaculate Conception $300
Queen of Heaven $200
St. John $100

In June, we had two great events, specifically the Rubber Ducks baseball game and our Luau monthly drawing dinner. A great time was had by all that attended. Missy counted over 75 people at dinner. I hope you all enjoyed the pulled pig sandwiches, luau pizza and all the wonderful side dishes and desserts. Thank you to the lounge for creating a special luau beverage for the night.

I am still looking for volunteers for our committees. The family committee is almost full, but the others can use some more folks. I will have the sign-up again with me at our council meeting and weekly Wednesday meetings in July. The July deadline for recommendations for family of the month is July 15. The chosen family will be announced at our August council meeting and shared with their parish.

It is time to start planning and working on our new member recruitment for this fall. Watch for opportunities to volunteer and details soon.

On Tuesdays this summer, we will have bocce ball at our court in back. Missy and I played a few weeks ago and had a great time. Bring your chairs, BYOB and come out for some fun.

I encourage everyone to come out on Wednesdays at the hall starting at 6 p.m. Sign the books for a chance to win the weekly/monthly drawings. Enjoy a hotdog and other delicious potluck items, plus socialization.

Please keep reading, as more information and events are listed later in the newsletter.

Be Good Everyone.
Steve Dort,
Grand Knight
