Grand Knight’s Message

Hello everyone,

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I would like to begin this newsle?er with acknowledgment of the sad news of the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. I am sure whichever parish you a?end, your priest not only led us in prayer but also reflection of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s life. May eternal rest be granted unto him, O Lord…

It’s the new year. Do any of you make New Year’s resolutions? Did you know that studies show that only 8% of people keep their new year’s resolutions? How has your 2023 resolution been going? If your resolution was to pay your dues on time, we are here to help you keep your resolution. Dues are now available to be paid. Paying them right away this year keeps you eligible for weekly and monthly drawings.

Last fall, we had a signup to share the duty of cooking hot dogs each week. This worked well and no one had to do it every week. We need volunteers for the next few months to cook the hotdogs for 7 p.m. Wednesday potlucks as well as help with cleanup that week. Please signup on the sheet in the lounge and pick a week or two. You do not need to purchase the hot dogs; they will be at the hall waiting for you!

It is almost time for our Euchre tournament. I hope to see you on Saturday, Jan. 21. Signup sheets are available in the lounge or feel free to give me a call. I wanted to make sure everyone knows that they are welcome to invite friends and family as well. The cost to play Euchre is $10 per person. Money collected will be used for prizes as well as a donation to the Peter Maurin Center from council #3410.

Do not forget we are also having a chili cook-off the same day. Make a Crockpot of your favorite chili to enter. Please also bring a ladle to serve your chili. Sample size bowls will be provided. Doors open at 3 p.m. and tastings will be from 3:30-5 p.m. If you would like to take part in the tastings and judging, a $5 donation will be collected. The Euchre tournament will begin around 4 p.m. Dave DeShane will be behind the bar to serve you your favorite beverage(s).

Enjoy a night out with your council at the Akron Zips Basketball game. There is a special rate for tickets, a council recognition, and opportunities to take part in on- court promotions. The game is Saturday, Feb. 18, with a 7 p.m. Tipoff. To purchase tickets, go to gozips.com/tickets and use promo code – KOFC23 General Admission Tickets are $10 and Upper Reserved are $20. Deadline to order is Friday, Feb. 17.

Lent starts on Feb. 22. Please read below about this year’s Lenten Fish Fry. I hope you can come out and volunteer. All volunteers are welcome, whether you can help one week or all the weeks of Lent.

Be good everyone,
Steve Dort, Grand Knight

Theology on the Rocks

Theology on the Rocks this month is at a new location, The Tangier in Fairlawn. The date is Monday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. The speaker this month is Father John Valencheck, Pastor of St. Sebastian. The topic is “What We Aren’t Talking About.” Trying to overcome simplistic platitudes, trite tautologies and semantically overloaded aphorisms that keep us from having national discussions about important, complex ideas.

We would like to ensure our records are correct. Starting soon, we will be verifying member’s phone numbers and email addresses. If you would like to volunteer to help with this, please let us know.
