Grand Knight’s Message

Hello everyone,

It is February and I heard that Buckeye Chuck saw his shadow and we have 6 more weeks of winter. It has not been that bad of a winter but I’m ready for some March Madness & Rubber Ducks baseball games.

On January 21, we held our euchre tournament and chili cook off. This was held to raise money for the Peter Maurin Center. The euchre game raised $315 and then we added the surplus from the chili cook off to make it a grand total of $385 to donate to the Peter Maurin Center. Thank you everyone who came out and made the night a fun and generous evening.

Brother Knights should have received your dues invoice during January. Thank you to those that already paid. If you have not yet paid, send those payments in soon. Thank you for your support. I am also working to ensure we have updated addresses, phone numbers and emails for all Brothers. We are starting a list that you can check to make sure your information, as well as any other family you know on that list is correct. I will have that list with me on Tuesday at our monthly meeting, as well as each Wednesday evening.

This month starts the Cash Bonanza. This is the Ohio State Council’s annual charity campaign. Income from this campaign provides funding for many different charitable donations across the state. The winners are drawn at the state convention in May.

Come out and enjoy a night out with your council at the Akron Zips Basketball game. There will be special rate tickets, a council recognition, and opportunities to take part in on court promotions. The game is Saturday, Feb., 18, with a 7 p.m. tipoff. To purchase tickets, go to www.gozips.com/tickets and use promo code – KOFC23. General admission tickets are $10 and upper reserved are $20. Deadline to order is Friday, Feb. 17.

If basketball is not your thing, consider supporting the 100th anniversary of Immaculate Conception Parish and buy a ticket for their Night at the Races.

Lent starts on February 22. I hope to see many of you at the hall on fish fry Fridays, either volunteering or enjoying some wonderful fish and/or shrimp and other Lenten food.

Be good everyone
Steve Dort, Grand Knight

Fish Fry

Friday Fish Frys start this month. Lent begins Wednesday, Feb. 22, and ends Saturday, April 8. Volunteer sign-up sheets are in the lounge. For those volunteering, plan on coming down Friday, Feb. 17 for some food and discussion on how our fish frys will work this year.

If you are not able to volunteer, you can help by spreading the word that we will be open this year and come out yourself with family and friends to enjoy a nice dinner. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the lounge will also be open. Watch for more details soon.

Building Maintenance and Repair Raffle

The raffle is going well with just a few tickets left to sell. The goal is to have everything sold and turned in so that the last Wednesday of February, during our potluck, we could hold the drawing. If there are any outstanding tickets, we will have to wait until a later time for the drawing. This raffle is being offered to raise money to keep up with the cost of repairs on our own Knights of Columbus Hall. Only one hundred tickets are being sold.

The grand prize is $2,000, 2nd prize is $1,000 and 3rd prize is $500. Tickets are $100 each. Winners do not need to be present. If you are interested in a ticket, speak with Brother Fred Cafarelli on availability.

Super Bowl Sunday

The lounge will be open on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 12. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Come down and watch Kansas City vs Philadelphia on our TV’s in the lounge. A $10 donation includes pizza, wings and sandwiches. Covered dishes and desserts are welcome. Who will be the lucky winners on the Super Bowl squares?

Zips Basketball Game

Buy your tickets for Council #3410 night at the Akron Zips basketball game. The game is Saturday, Feb. 18, with a 7 p.m. tipoff. To place your order, go to www.gozips.com/tickets and use promo code – KOFC23 General admission tickets are $10 and upper reserved are $20. Deadline to order is Friday, Feb. 17.

A Night at The Races

Consider supporting the capital improvement fund for Immaculate Conception Parish. Immaculate Conception Catholic Church presents A Night at the Races on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Tickets are $25 per person and includes dinner, drinks, desserts and one horse. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., dinner at 5:00 p.m. and the races begin at 6 p.m. For tickets, call Charles Wilson.

Theology on the Rocks

Theology on the Rocks will be on Monday, Feb. 13, at The Tangier, 507 S. Cleveland Massillon Road in Fairlawn. The speaker is Father Peter Morris, Administrator of SS. Peter and Paul in Doylestown. His topic is Jesus speaking for us and to us.

Craft Fair

On Saturday, April 22, there will be a craft fair in the hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tell your friends and family to come and take a look at some great spring and summer items. Free admission to all! If anyone is interested in having a table at the craft fair, please speak with Missy Dort. Each table is $40 and all the table money collected will be donated back to the hall itself.

2023 Membership Dues

This includes dues for Brother Knights, spouses, and social dues. Brother Knight membership invoices have been mailed out and include a return envelope to mail it back if you are not bringing it back to the club in person. Reminder you must have your dues paid to enter the weekly/monthly drawings at the hall. If any Brother has a question about their dues, please speak with Brother Mike Herold.
