Grand Knight’s Message

Hello everyone,

It’s Holy Week. Happy Easter everyone.

If you haven’t been to a South Akron Knights of Columbus Fish Fry, you have one last chance this Lent, on Good Friday, April 7 from 4:30-7 p.m. This is the first time I’ve been this involved with the fish frys and, wow, it is a ton of work but even more fun. What a great 7 weeks we had. Thanks to all those involved including the behind-the-scenes management and the large volunteer work force. Everyone should be very proud.

I am going to need your help in April. I have set up three churches to sell Cash Bonanza tickets at, after their masses. I know many of you go to St. Francis De Sales, and unfortunately, we were a little late this year and they already have tickets being sold there from a different council. Also, if you were wondering about Immaculate Conception, Brother Don White has that parish handled. I am looking for volunteers the weekend of April 15 and 16, and April 22 and 23.

  • St. John the Baptist on Brown St. has one mass at 10 a.m. on Sundays.
  • St. Paul Church on Brown St. has Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and then 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Sundays.
  • Queen of Heaven in Green we will only go the first weekend. They have a 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 8:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Please call Steve Dort to pick a parish, date and time(s).

You know the saying when it rains it pours, well April is one of those months. Also, on the weekend of April 22 and 23, all St. Paul masses are being said for the Knights of Columbus Brothers. I am encouraging you to attend one of the masses that weekend. Any Brothers that are in attendance, when they start to prep the altar for communion, please meet at the back of the church. Those who are there will walk the gifts to the altar.

The exception is 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Paul, that is the extraordinary form and gifts are not brought to the altar. Hope to see many of you at the Saturday 4:30 p.m. or Sunday 8 and 11:30 a.m. masses. I will be at the 8 a.m. mass. to volunteer to sell tickets.

The third and final April 22 event is the Craft Fair. If you are free that day, please stop by the hall from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and check out the 33 tables of crafters and vendors. Over $1,200.00 was raised and donated to the hall, just by having tables sold for them to sell their items. We want to show the crafters and vendors our support as well. I heard there will be a large range of items available for sale.

Congratulations to Immaculate Conception on their 100 year anniversary. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend their celebratory mass. What a great occasion to have the bishop come to town and celebrate with the community.

The Ozanam Center has reached out to ask and asked us to do a shoe collection. Though any shoes are welcome, they are in need of men’s shoes. We do have a tote at the hall for you to drop off any shoes you are donating. We will ensure they get to the center.

Clergy Appreciation Night is Thursday, June 1 at our hall. It is an opportunity to honor our clergy along with all the other priests, deacons, and brothers in the surrounding councils. Watch for more details next month about how you can come out and enjoy the evening.

Brothers, do not forget Tuesday, April 4, our monthly meeting with Rosary at 7 and then our meeting afterward. There will be pizza.

Please keep reading, as more information and events are listed later in the newsletter.

Be Good Everyone.
Steve Dort, Grand Knight

Bocce Ball

Last call about bocce ball. If you would like to volunteer to organize some bocce ball, please contact Steve Dort. In the meantime, if you have any interest in playing let him know.

Mass Intentions for our K of C Brothers

On Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23, all the masses at St. Paul Catholic Church in Firestone Park will be for the intention of our Knights of Columbus Members. Even if you are not a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church consider attending a mass there this weekend. Not only will the intention be shared at the beginning of mass, but the Brothers at each mass will collectively walk the gifts to the altar. Mass times are Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m., 9:30 extraordinary form (no carrying gifts at 9:30), and 11:30 a.m. I hope many of you can participate. I would like to see us rotate this across the different parishes of council #3410 each year.

Ignite Young Adult Conference

Ignite is a single day conference, April 29, meant to draw young adults from Cleveland and all neighboring dioceses. The purpose of the conference is meant to instill young adult Catholics with the knowledge of their worth and dignity in the eyes of Jesus, surround themselves with a community of other passionate young adults that they can grow with, and equip them to be sent on mission to serve and evangelize. All in an effort to ignite the nation on fire, by creating young adult saints of our time. Registration is at the link below. If any younger member is interested but the $55 registration fee is not doable, please reach out to Brother Michael Payne as council #3410 may be able to offer financial assistance.
