Grand Knight’s Message

Hello members of K of C 3410,

It seems the cool days and cooler evenings are becoming more common. We’ve been fortunate that the sun has still hung around a good bit and the raindrops have stayed away. The leaves are changing but it seems like they’re taking their time to come down. Leaf removal is inevitable, though. We just set our clocks back, so you know what’s coming around the corner.

October was a little quiet around the confines of 3410. We did welcome four new members into our council, so I want to welcome them again! For our current members, as well as our new members, please introduce yourselves to one another if you see a new face in the building!

I want to thank Brother Steve Dort (and Missy) for heading and concluding our Football Crazr ticket fundraiser. Steve has reported in prior emails of our strong ticket sales and that we did pretty well. It is always in the forefront of our mission, one of our primary principles, of charity.

September’s Knight of the Month was Brother Frank Nofsinger. As you may recall from our last newsletter, he had not been officially named yet, as we were getting ready to have our monthly meeting, and make it a surprise. Thank you, Frank, for everything you’ve done so far! We can’t wait to see what you bring to the table next!

On October 24, we had a K of C 3410 Memorial Mass at St. Paul’s. Thank you to our Brothers in attendance. We had a turnout of around 20 Brothers. Most Brothers were seated in the center pews, but it was noticed that there were other Brothers scattered about. You were seen, friends! Thank you for remembering our Brothers that have passed through Heaven’s gates.

October 28 was our monthly dinner and drawing. We had a couple handfuls of people that got dressed for the occasion. It was an enjoyable evening. If anyone has leftover Halloween candy they’re looking to dispatch, the table in the lounge is a good drop off spot! Ha-ha!

Please read on for upcoming events, news and more.

Be Good Everyone.
Vince Gross, Grand Knight

October’s Charitable Donations

In October, we did not have any new charity submissions for us to review/consider. There is usually a large push at the end of the year, so November and December may see a surge. We’ll keep you posted.

November’s Charity- Jay’s Kids

This month, our charitable focus is for Jay’s Kids, a local nonprofit support group that helps underserved children in the Akron area. We are looking to collect hygiene products, toothbrushes and toothpaste, new boys and girls underwear (small size), boys and girls socks, hats and gloves. Also, we’re looking for card games, board games and children’s puzzles. A donation box will be in the hallway through November 30. Brother Larry Whalen is heading this collection, if any questions. We thank you, in advance, for your continued charity and generosity!

New Year’s Eve Party

Thursday, December 31, there will be a NYE party in the hall. Cost is $35 per person. The theme is Mardi Gras. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and dinner and music will start at 8 p.m. Ticket sales will begin in early November. More to come!

2027 Building Fund Raffle Tickets

In the first quarter of 2027, Fred Cafarelli will chair our Building Fund raffle. As you may know, our building and property has, and is, undergoing many expensive repairs/updates. To help offset these tremendous expenses, we’re holding the $100 raffle ticket drawing. A limited number of tickets will be available, so don’t hesitate to help our cause! Quantity of tickets to be sold and prize monies to be determined. We’ve done this in the past and it really does help us keep our facility in good, safe operating condition.

Wheel, Deal and Soup Meal!

On January 16, 2027, we will have our Soup Cook off and Euchre tournament. Sign up sheets for both soup entrants and euchre players will be available in December, in the lounge. This event is open to all! There is no cost to enter your soup. There is a $5 tasting fee and sample whatever you like. Euchre players will also have a $10 entry fee for the card game. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and tasting will begin at 5 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will go to the K of C Wheelchair fund.
