Grand Knight’s Message

We made it! That was a soggy May, but the last week of May, heading into June, has been beautiful and I’m looking forward to a nice, hot summer in Akron.

We have a lot of stuff going on in June that I want to mainly focus on in this newsletter.

On June 17, we are hosting a Red Cross Blood drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the South Akron Knights of Columbus hall. Make an appointment by visiting akronkofc.com/blooddrive

On Wednesday, June 24, which is the monthly drawing, is when members can win a lot of money. This month, we are going to play BINGO before the drawing. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and we’ll play BINGO from 5-7 p.m. Half of the proceeds will go to our charity fund.

Again this year, we will be participating in the Silver Rose Pilgrimage. Each year from early spring to mid-December, multiple Silver Roses are blessed and travel through different routes across Canada, the United States and Mexico. Every stop the Silver Rose makes throughout the pilgrimage, is a Rosary centered occasion for all to pray for the respect for life. This year Fr. Pfeiffer has graciously allowed us to have a service before the 4:30 p.m. mass on June 27. We will get started at 4 p.m. I encourage all members and family to attend this cool event and learn more about the history of the Silver Rose. The Silver Rose that is coming through Akron started in Ontario, Canada on February 14 and culminates at the basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico on December 12, which is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Also on June 27, is the CLC steak-out from 5-7 p.m. Here’s what you want to do. Attend the silver Rose Ceremony at 4p.m., then stay and attend holy mass at 4:30 p.m, then finish this great evening at the South Akron Knights of Columbus Hall with your choice of a delicious steak, chicken or shrimp dinner. Make sure you sign up for the steak-out at the hall.
To wrap up June, on Sunday the 28th, Brother Dave Doyle has arranged for speaker Dr. Francesca Taylor of the Italian Catholic Federation to come to the South Akron Knights of Columbus hall. Dr. Taylor will be speaking about saints such as Mother Francesca Cabrini, Carlos Acutis & Pier Giorgio Frassati. She will also be showing pictures and speaking on shrines & holy places in Italy. Her talk will begin at 2 p.m. Arrive early to get a seat.

Steak Out and Fish Fry Volunteer Dinner

June 27 will be our second steak out for this summer. This is the steak out for Fish Fry Volunteers! Sign ups are in the lounge. Dinners are: Steak $20, Chicken $12 and Shrimp $12. You can add a side of shrimp for $6. Baked potato, green beans, salad and rolls included. Desserts to share are welcome. Dinner will take place from 5 -7 p.m. Must sign up to RSVP. Guest Speaker

Mark your calendars and come join us at the K of C hall on Sunday, June 28 at 2 p.m. for a special guest speaker. Dr. Francesca Taylor of the Italian Catholic Federation will be in Ohio and has offered to speak for us. Her topics will include stories about Saints such as Mother Francesca Cabrini, Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati. Hear about Fabulous shrines and holy places in Italy.
