Grand Knight’s Message
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thank you Elmer and Jeanne for putting together a New Year’s Eve celebration at the hall. We had over 130 people come out and ring in the New Year. I do not know the last time the hall hosted a NYE party, but this one was a night to remember. Missy and I wish you all a fantastic 2026.
In just a couple weeks is the Euchre Tournament and Chili Cook off. If you have not signed up please do, so we know how many people will be joining us. Also for the Chili Cook off, it is still free to enter and $5 to taste. For judging this year, we are looking for 3 people to be the official judges. If you like chili and want to judge, please reach out to me. All proceeds go towards the Knights of Columbus Wheelchair fund.
To those that purchased 3 month lottery tickets, good luck, and I hope we get many winners. Speaking of winners, in week 8 of the Football Crazr, Council 3410 had two winners. Congratulations to John Von Spiegel and Pete Casenhiser.
During 2026, we hope to see you at our weekly drawings, monthly drawings and special events that take place. The more events you attend, the more you will see that the South Akron Knights do a lot of great things.
Lent is early this year, with Ash Wednesday being February 18, and Easter is April 5. That means our fish frys are right around the corner. Watch for information to come out soon.
Last year, we did a group dinner at the Polish American Club for a fish fry dinner before our KofC fish frys. Let’s do it again this year on Friday, January 30 at 5 p.m. Last year about 40 of us went. We will do a sign up, so we can give the PAC a head’s up of how many people plan on coming to dinner and have some reserved tables again in the dining room.
With six months left in my term of Grand Knight, I want to ensure we continue to grow as a council and complete activities that are part of the Faith in Action objectives. Keep an eye out for those activities and join in when you can. Around April/May we will start taking nominations for the different council roles and will vote at our May meeting so everyone is ready to start the new Knights of Columbus year on July 1.
Brother Knights, our January meeting is Tuesday, January 6. Come out at 7 p.m. for the rosary and our meeting will begin immediately following.
Be Good Everyone.
Steve Dort,
Grand Knight
Euchre Tournament and Chili Cookoff
Can you believe we are planning our next Euchre Tournament already? Mark your calendars for January 17. Sign up sheets are in the lounge. This event is open to everyone! Invite your friends and family members. The money raised goes to the Knights of Columbus Wheel Chair fund. Doors open at 4:30 and tasting begins at 5 p.m. Euchre will begin immediately after the tasting.
No cost to enter a chili. $5 per person to taste all the chili, and $10 per person to play Euchre.
Free Throw Competition
Since 1972, councils have sponsored the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship for boys and girls from the ages of 9 to 14 to provide an athletic outlet and encourage the values of sportsmanship and healthy competition. Kids compete within their own gender and age and progress from local level to district, regional and state competitions. On January 25 South Akron Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition will be held at Queen of Heaven from 3-5 p.m. Please help us spread the word about this event. Brother Knights, if this is an event you would like to volunteer at, please reach out to Vince Gross.
Fish Fry Group Dinner
Join us at the Polish American Club for a Fish Fry dinner Friday, January 30 at 5 p.m. This is just weeks before we are busy volunteering at our own Lenten fish frys. Sign up sheets are in the lounge so we can let them know how many to expect from our group.
Acme Cash Back Receipts
If you shop at Acme, any receipts from August 1, 2025 – February 15, 2026 are part of the Acme Cash Back Program. We will be collecting these receipts for St. Francis De Sales School. Receipts should have the amount listed on the bottom of your receipt. We only need that small part, not the whole receipt. There is a collection envelope in the lounge. Drop them off any time the lounge is open.
