Grand Knight’s Message
Blessed Advent everyone! As we prepare for Christmas maybe we can all take a little extra time for prayer, serving the poor and fasting this advent season.
We have had to change our Exemplification ceremony date. We will have an exemplification ceremony on Tuesday December 2 at 7 p.m. If you know any Catholic men aged 18+, please invite them to join our council or give me their phone number. Also, if you are only a 1st or 2nd degree knight this would be a great opportunity to get up to your 3rd degree. If you’re already a 3rd degree and have not seen the new ceremony this would be a great opportunity for you to watch how the new ceremony is performed.
What a great job Shawn Needham and his team did at the reverse raffle last month. I heard nothing but compliments about how good the food was and how well Shawn ran the raffle.
Thank you to everyone who helped fill the box for Jay’s Kids. The box was overflowing with items for families this Christmas.
Over the next several newsletters, I will be describing the different officer roles of our council that we elect each spring. If anyone is considering the position of Grand Knight, I am happy to discuss the role with you. We will take nominations in the spring and vote in May. The newly elected will start in July 2026.
Please note the Monthly drawing for December will be early due to Christmas and New Year’s Eve. We will draw for the monthly on December 17.
One last thing, as you’re thinking about a New Year’s Resolution, make part of it to be more involved with the South Akron Knights, we do a lot of great things.

South Akron KofC – 3 month lottery drawing
You should have received your Ohio Lottery Evening Pick 3 straight number drawing tickets. The drawings take place in January, February and March of 2026. You have a chance to win every Monday through Saturday evening drawings. Tickets are $10 each. Please return them soon. You can talk to Shawn Needham if you have any questions.
Akron Zips men’s basketball game
Join us on Friday, December 19 at the James A. Rhodes (JAR) arena for a Zips men’s basketball game. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start against Eastern Michigan. Lower bowl seats will cost $10. We will be getting together before the game in the lounge. Sign up in the lounge or call Steve Dort if you plan on going. You can order your own tickets at this link, or if you need Steve to pick up your tickets, then please let him know on the sign up sheet.
New Year’s Eve
Tickets are on sale for our NYE party. Let’s get the word out that we will be having a Black and Gold New Year’s Eve Party at the hall on Wednesday, December 31. Tickets will include food, drinks and DJ. The cost is $35 a person or $60 a couple. We will only sell tickets for the amount of space we have and once they are sold out, no others will be made available. Call Jeanne and Elmer to get your tickets and table reserved.
Euchre Tournament and Chili Cookoff
Can you believe we are planning our next Euchre Tournament already? Mark your calendars for January 17. More information and sign up sheets will be available in December. This event is open to everyone! Invite your friends and family members. The money raised goes to the Knights of Columbus Wheel Chair fund. Sign up in the lounge starting December 3.
Acme Cash Back Receipts
If you shop at Acme, any receipts from August 1, 2025 – February 15, 2026 are part of the Acme Cash Back Program. We will be collecting these receipts for St. Francis De Sales School. Receipts should have the amount listed on the bottom of your receipt. We only need that small part, not the whole receipt. There is a collection envelope in the lounge. Drop them off any time the lounge is open.
