Grand Knight’s Message
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed. Happy Easter everyone. May your hearts be filled with peace, hope, and love this Easter season and remember nothing is impossible with God.
What a tremendous Lenten Fish Fry season we had. Kudos to the guys that organize the fish frys, Bob Capron, Dave Deshane, Jim Guarino, Vince Gross, Ernie Hindinger, Shawn Needham, Jerry Paridon, Mike Payne, Damian Sedlock and Don White. The fish frys would not be the success that they are without all the volunteers throughout the week. The work done by the men and women of Council #3410 is amazing from Wednesday to Friday, food preparation, setting up tables, cooking, taking orders, serving and cleaning up. Great job everyone and THANK YOU!
Another Thursday cornhole league has wrapped up. Thanks Dave and Zach Deshane for running the league and the guys who serve up the cold, cold drinks every Thursday, keeping us hydrated and getting us through a cold NE Ohio winter.
At our March council meeting we voted for our “of the year” winners. We had a lot of deserving nominations, unfortunately there could only be one winner in each category.
Knight of the year – Jerry Paridon
Family of the year – Steve and Missy Dort
Chaplain of the year – Fr. Matthew Pfeiffer
Youth of the year – Glenn Conroy (8th grader St. Francis De Sales School)
Lady of the year – Patty VanPelt
At our April meeting we will be taking verbal nominations for Council #3410 officers. I will also be taking nominations by phone or text until the end of April. We will vote at our May council meeting and the new term begins in July.
Finally, we are still looking for 12 new men to join our council to meet the state quota this year. This is a huge part for us to obtain Star Council for a third year in a row.
Keep reading for opportunities to get involved with the South Akron Knights of Columbus.
Be good everyone.
Steve Dort, Grand Knight
Mass for Council #3410
On April 26, at 8 a.m. at St. Paul Church, there will be a mass said for the intention of the Brother Knights of Council #3410. This was received positively last year, especially as we all entered the church together at the start of mass. I hope all Brother Knights of our council are able to join us.
Flags for Veterans
Join us Saturday, May 23 at Holy Cross Cemetery to place flags at the graves of Veterans. Meet at 8 a.m. at the cemetery’s main office. It does help if you can bring a tool, like a long screw driver, to make a small hole to place the flag in. If you have any questions, please reach out to Brother Bill Canan. Family and friends are welcome to join.
Suitcase Collection
Brother Tom Ciccolini had a great suggestion for our next donation collection. Haven of Rest could use donations of slightly used and clean wheeled suit cases. We would like to collect 25-30 suitcases to donate for the use by the men and women at Haven of Rest. If you have any questions you can contact Tom.
Red Cross Blood Drive
Sign up to give blood with the Red Cross on Wednesday June 19th. We will have flyers made that you can take and share with others as well. Watch for more information in your emails.
Election of Officers
The new term starts in July 2026 and lasts for two years. Nominations can be turned in to me until the end of April. We will vote in May in plenty of time for the new council year that starts July 1, 2026. If you are interested in any of the council positions (whether new or returning) or if you would like to nominate someone please get a hold of Steve Dort. Roles we are taking nominations for: Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Chancellor, Recorder, Treasurer, Advocate, Warden, and our inside and outside Guards.
