Recruitment volunteers needed | Wanted: Lounge bartenders | Crazr tickets | Acme Receipts | Oktoberfest
Grand Knight’s Message
Hello members of K of C 3410,
It seems that another summer has flown by. Children are heading back to school for another year of learning, growing and molding into the adults they will become. The leaves are starting to drop a little, some mums and Halloween decorations are starting to pop up and the street lights seem to come on earlier, little by little each night.
I want to thank those that donated blankets for the August charity drive. We were aiming for 50 blankets and we exceeded that number, gathering 65! That collection has ended, but keep in mind that for September’s charity drive we are collecting canned goods and nonperishables. Our hope is that it will go towards holiday meals to those in need. Thanks to George Hodnichek for being our Community Director, which the position reaches out to community-based programs, like St. Vincent DePaul, blood drives, Habitat for Humanity, etc., and how we can aid them.
On August 15, we held our third and final steak out of the summer. We had our largest crowd for the year, with 80 plus in attendance! Before that evening, the Annual 3410 “…Of the Year” winners could only boast about being the winner (ha-ha!) That night, they were given their well deserved plaques. Our Annual Award winners are: Jerry Paridon, Patty VanPelt, Steve and Missy Dort, Fr. Matthew Pfeiffer and Glenn Conroy (they were listed in April’s newsletter).
Speaking of recognition, I want to congratulate Joe Pappano for being August’s Knight of the Month. Joe has recently washed his last beer glass at the club, retiring from his bartending duties so he can enjoy relaxing with the rest of the crowd. Thank you, Joe!!!
Lastly, I want to send out a HUGE HAPPY BIRTHDAY to John Schmidt, who turns 100 years young on September 2. God bless you, John!
Please read on for upcoming events, news and more.
Be Good Everyone.
Steve Dort, Grand Knight
August’s Charitable Donations
In the month of August, our council made a couple donations at the monthly meeting. Unfortunately, as the newsletter was being prepared, the names of the recipients were not readily available. We’ll hold you in suspense until October’s newsletter comes out and we’ll list August’s and September’s charitable donation contributions.
Recruitment Volunteers Needed
Brother Frank Noffsinger, our Deputy Grand Knight, and newly crowned Membership Recruiting Director, will be at St. Frances deSales parish picnic on September 12, from 4 – 9 p.m. on a recruitment excursion. Also at St. Frances, on September 20, Frank is looking for assistance after the 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. masses. If he’s able to get enough volunteers, maybe one or two Brothers can handle one mass each. It will not take up much time after the mass.
2026 Football Crazr tickets
Brother Steve (and Missy) Dort are chairing the Crazr ticket sales this year. As of the mid August email, there were 116 tickets sold. Our goal is to sell 400. Tickets are $20 each. Please make sure the paid stubs being returned say Council 3410 on them, so we get the appropriate credit. Ticket sales help reduce our per capita cost each year. We would like to see each Brother sell two tickets each. The deadline for the final ticket turn in is October 15.
Oktoberfest party on September 30
We will proudly host the Culkar-Golob band to perform our Oktoberfest party on Wednesday, September 30. This is also September’s monthly drawing. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the music will be performed from 5:30-8 p.m. The cost is $10 per person for admission and to eat, and any additional donations will be welcomed to cover the band fee. Please bring a side dish/dessert to share. Don’t forget to dress in your best Oktoberfest attire!
Acme Receipts collection
We are assisting St. Francis de Sales with collecting Acme receipts again, as part of their fundraiser. Receipt collection will be in the lounge, behind the bar. Please give your receipts to whomever is tending to put into the designated envelope. Vince Gross is chairing this program for our council.
Bartenders wanted
Since Joe has retired and Dave DeShane will be taking a scheduled break from behind the bar, we are looking for volunteers to help out on Monday and Wednesday nights. Please contact Dave directly to discuss the position.
K of C Memorial Mass
The K of C 3410 Memorial mass will be held at St. Paul’s on Saturday, October 24 at the 4:30 p.m. mass. Please mark your calendar and we hope to see you there!
3410’s Fall Reverse Raffle- Saturday, November 21
It’s time again for our Fall Reverse Raffle. Keep an eye out for fliers in the lounge and emails that will follow. Shawn Needham will be chairing the event. We will have ticket numbers 1-175 available for immediate sale. If they sell out, we will then release tickets 176-200. Tickets are $40 each. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., buffet to start at 7 p.m. and the raffle will begin at 8:15 p.m. Contact Shawn to purchase tickets for this event.
2027 Building Fund Raffle Tickets
In the first quarter of 2027, Fred Cafarelli will chair our Building Fund raffle. As you may know, our building and property has and is undergoing many expensive repairs/updates. To help offset these tremendous expenses, we’re holding the $100 raffle ticket drawing. A limited number of tickets will be available, so don’t hesitate to help our cause! Quantity of tickets to be sold and prize monies to be determined. We’ve done this in the past and it really does help us keep our K of C in good operating condition.
