South Akron Knights of Columbus

Council 3410

Lent Fish Fry | 2026 Mass | Election of Officers

Grand Knight’s Message

Blessed Lent. With everyone’s busy schedules, I hope we’re all trying to take some time to deepen our faith, reflect on our relationship with God and prepare for the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection.

Let me report some of the great things that have been happening with our council!

We received a check for $3,221.50 from the state for the sale of the 2025 football Crazr tickets. That money will be going into our charity fund that we use every month to donate to local charities. Thanks to everyone that bought and sold tickets. Thanks to Missy for helping with the organization of the Football Crzar Campaign.

On February 1, Nathan and I represented the Knights of Columbus at the St. Francis De Sale Ministry Fair. We met a lot of nice folks and hopefully some future Brother Knights. We have already had one transfer resulting from attending the fair, Brother Paul Hirsch, who has been a nice addition to our council.

On February 7, we welcomed representatives from the State Knights of Columbus and hosted 17 other Knights of Columbus councils to our hall for a live Cash Bonanza Kickoff. Thank you to Brother Don White, and Brother/District Deputy Tom Goodhart for representing our council at the kickoff. Brother Don White is taking the lead on this fundraiser for us again this year.

On February 8, the hall was open for the Super Bowl. Thank you to everyone who worked to make it a
success. Will we ever see the Browns in the Super Bowl? Super Bowl? How about the playoffs? Playoffs? How about a winning record?

Thank you everyone who turned in Acme Cash Back receipts. We had over $2,600 in the cash back amount. In 2025 we were just over $800. The receipts have been turned in to St. Francis De Sales School and they were extremely appreciative.

In February, we had two fish frys with this early lenten season. Thank you to everyone who is volunteering before, during and after each fish fry. Both Fridays have seen a nice steady crowd of customers.

I’m working on some things for the upcoming months. One being a Red Cross Blood Drive at the hall. I am also working to schedule a Sunday for us to help out when St. Paul Parish delivers food to the Peter Maurin Center on South Main St. Watch for emails for opportunities to help.

We are looking for 12 new men to join our council to meet our quota this year. Our quota is 15 and so far we have 3. Please talk with your family and friends. To join, men must be 18 years old and a practical catholic. If anyone has contacts at our catholic high schools, please see if you can get information to the 18 year olds. One of the questions I get asked the most is how much time commitment is there. As you are aware, it is as much or as little as you can participate at different points in life. We need everyone’s help to meet our quota this year. We will be choosing the date for the next exemplification at our March meeting.

Our monthly meeting is Tuesday, March 3. The rosary starts at 7 p.m. and the meeting is immediately afterward. We will be voting on “…. of the year” recognitions from the nominations I have received.

Be good everyone.
Steve Dort, Grand Knight

2026 Lenten Fish Fry

Fish Fry’s have started off strong. If you are considering volunteering, it is not too late. Come on out on Fridays at 4 p.m. and we will find a place for you to help.

Mass for Council #3410

On April 26, at the 8 a.m. mass at St. Paul Church, there will be a mass said for the intention of the Brother Knights of Council #3410. This was received positively last year, especially as we all entered the church together at the start of mass. I hope all Brother Knights of our council are able to join us.

Election of Officers

It is also time to start collecting nominations for K of C Council Officers. The new term starts in July 2026 and lasts for two years. Nominations can be turned in to me in March and April. We will vote in May in plenty of time for the new council year that starts July 1, 2026. If you are interested in any of the council positions (whether new or returning) or if you would like to nominate someone please get a hold of me. If not in person you can text Steve Dort. Roles we are taking nominations for: Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Chancellor, Recorder, Treasurer, Advocate, Warden, and our inside and outside Guards.
